Describe more than the pH number
Record the sampling point, measured pH, temperature, solids origin and upstream treatment. Note whether the sample was taken before or after neutralization or precipitation. Two waters with similar pH can contain different suspended material and require different conditioning.
Do not purchase NPAM on an assumption that nonionic means immune to water chemistry. Ask why the proposed code is being screened and which process-compatibility questions remain open. Keep stock-preparation water identified separately from the acidic process sample.
Separate conditioning from polymer selection
If the treatment includes pH adjustment or a coagulant, establish that comparison independently. Preserve a stated baseline and addition sequence. A better result after changing both conditioning and polymer cannot establish which change produced the improvement.
For a polymer-only comparison, hold the relevant upstream condition stable and document any unavoidable variation. Follow plant procedures for chemical handling and operational changes; a purchasing trial is not permission to alter a treatment system unsupervised.
Observe the required separation result
Compare clarified liquid, captured solids and downstream handling under defined timing and dose units. Do not approve a grade solely because a visible floc forms. Record any requirement not met and the feed range that has actually been assessed.
Use industrial-separation qualification with a separate preparation-water check when inconsistent stock could obscure the grade comparison.
Limit the order to the evidence
Request the qualified code, supporting documents and an order quantity suited to the next stage of verification. Record operating conditions explicitly; neither a sample result nor a nonionic label establishes suitability for every acidic stream.
If a later purchase is intended for a different acid source, solids composition or treatment sequence, request a fresh review. Keep the change visible in the quotation instead of silently extending the original approval.
Decision record for the quotation
| Decision | Evidence needed |
|---|---|
| Feed identity | Measured pH plus solids origin, sampling stage and upstream chemistry. |
| Controlled comparison | Conditioning and polymer changes can be interpreted separately. |
| Approval limit | Qualified operating conditions remain attached to the production order. |
