NPAM / TECHNICAL NOTE

Nonionic Polyacrylamide Specifications for a Purchase Order

A purchase specification should define what is accepted, how it is checked and what happens when it changes.

Separate the family from the ordered code

State nonionic polyacrylamide as the product family, then identify the agreed grade and supplied form. Ask the supplier how ionic character is defined for that code. The word nonionic alone does not settle molecular characteristics, residual components or application suitability.

Attach the approved technical data revision and identify any negotiated exception. Avoid copying unrelated catalogue ranges into the order; a number becomes an acceptance condition only when both parties understand its meaning and method.

Make each analytical requirement testable

For a property such as solution viscosity, specify the relevant concentration, water conditions, temperature, instrument method and units. Distinguish a typical value from a release limit. The viscosity and molecular-weight comparison explains why unexplained headline numbers cannot prove equivalence.

For solids or an active-content basis, request the applicable method and interpretation. If the supplier cannot support a proposed active fraction, keep commercial-product consumption explicit instead of creating an unsupported conversion.

Add process qualification without promising every feed

Keep the approved sample, preparation method and representative feed condition with the specification. Define which operating result justified the selection and which variations have not been tested. A laboratory result is not a universal performance warranty.

Agree whether a bounded receipt comparison is required and how unexpected results are investigated. Avoid accepting material solely from a visual powder inspection when the critical concern is separation performance.

Control changes and document precedence

Identify the controlling product code, packaging, label and batch documents in the purchase order. Ask for notice of changes affecting the agreed material or preparation instructions. Define who approves a substitute and whether another sample is necessary.

Use the supply-document review to reconcile differences between the quotation, technical sheet and order. Resolve contradictory values before payment or dispatch rather than leaving the receiving team to choose a document.
