Match package size to consumption
Estimate how much powder is consumed between preparation events and how long an opened unit will remain in use. Compare that interval with the product-specific handling guidance and the storage conditions available at the plant. Do not assume that all grades have the same opened-package life.
Ask which packaging options are actually available for the proposed code. A requested bag or bulk format may require a different order arrangement; obtain written confirmation rather than treating an illustrative package picture as a supply promise.
Review the entire handling route
Check offloading, movement to storage, opening, feeding and safe management of remaining material. Confirm the equipment and people responsible for each step. Follow the supplied SDS and site procedures for dust, spills and damaged packages.
Assess the feeder interface and protection from moisture exposure. Savings in package price may be outweighed by poor feeding consistency or compromised material. The lump investigation helps distinguish storage damage from a wetting problem.
Preserve lot separation
Require product and batch identification that survives normal storage and partial use. If approved repackaging is necessary, retain the same identity and handling information. Do not combine leftovers from unrelated lots merely to empty a storage area.
Connect each delivery with its batch documents. When several lots arrive together, receiving records should identify which packages belong to each certificate and where they were stored.
Set the order quantity and replenishment logic
Balance expected consumption, confirmed delivery arrangements and available suitable storage. Record the assumptions behind the inventory calculation. Avoid adding an arbitrary buffer that leaves opened or unused material beyond the intended handling plan.
Use opened-bag management and repeat-order control to align packaging with stock rotation. Confirm net contents, pallet or handling details and destination requirements in the actual quotation.
Decision record for the quotation
| Decision | Evidence needed |
|---|---|
| Use interval | Package size reflects measured consumption and the expected time after opening. |
| Handling fit | Offloading, storage and feeder arrangements can manage the proposed unit. |
| Identity | Each remaining portion retains the code, lot and required handling information. |
