Calculate the test demand
List the number of candidate grades, preparation batches, dose points and repetitions planned. Estimate commercial powder needed from the stated stock concentration and working volume. Include a justified allowance for repeat preparation and retained reference material; do not assume every small package supports a plant trial.
Ask the supplier to confirm available sample quantities and dispatch arrangements. There is no universal sample weight suitable for every laboratory and separator. Distinguish bench-screening demand from the larger volume needed to run a preparation and dosing system.
Ask for an identifiable sample set
Each container needs a product code and an identifier that technical sales can trace. Request preparation guidance, current SDS and the technical information needed to interpret the comparison. Record dispatch and receipt dates, and note any damaged packaging before opening.
Choose a sample plan that tests a reasoned range of candidates. Requesting many unexplained variants makes the comparison harder to interpret. The NPAM selection criteria help connect each candidate with an actual process question.
Agree a progression rule
Define the result required to move from bench screening to an equipment trial. Include overflow quality, solids behavior and practical preparation, as relevant. Stop a candidate that fails a critical requirement even if it produces an impressive-looking floc.
Preserve a current-product or untreated control. Record feed variability and limitations of sample storage. The trial sequence keeps a favorable observation from being mistaken for complete commercial qualification.
Keep the sample and order connected
Retain the selected code, preparation record and remaining reference material under the supplied storage instructions. Ask whether the production offer is the same grade and what documentation will identify the delivered lot.
Send the expected commercial quantity and destination when requesting a follow-up quote. Sample approval does not establish production availability, packaging or lead time; obtain those terms for the actual order.
Decision record for the quotation
| Decision | Evidence needed |
|---|---|
| Quantity | Calculation covers preparation batches, comparisons, repetitions and a retained reference. |
| Progression | Written bench-to-plant gate includes the required result and a stopping condition. |
| Continuity | Selected sample code is explicitly connected with the commercial offer. |
