Fix the quotation boundary
Ask each supplier to quote the same identified nonionic grade requirement, order quantity, packaging and destination. Record the currency, quotation validity and delivery term with its named location. Separate freight, insurance and destination charges where they are not included; an apparently cheaper ton may have a narrower delivery scope.
Keep sample-qualified and untested offers in separate groups. A product described only as NPAM powder is not yet a comparable alternative to an approved grade. Use the grade selection record to resolve that difference before ranking commercial terms.
Convert the trial into a consumption cost
Calculate chemical cost from measured commercial-product consumption and its corresponding unit price. For example, an illustrative dose of 0.04 kg per cubic metre at 2 currency units per kg costs 0.08 units per cubic metre. These figures explain the arithmetic; they are not a product price or dosage recommendation.
Only compare costs for runs meeting the same overflow, capture and solids-handling requirements. If dose is reported on an active basis, confirm the documented conversion described in active versus solids content. Do not equate a solids percentage with an active-polymer fraction.
Include the cost of making usable stock
Powder preparation, water, handling and unusable material can affect the purchasing decision. Identify measured losses rather than assigning an arbitrary allowance. A smaller purchase saving can disappear if the proposed stock cannot be prepared reliably with the installed equipment.
Keep capital modifications separate from recurring consumption. Request a revised quotation if another package size or preparation requirement changes the purchase scope.
Make the commercial decision conditional
Record the winning candidate, the accepted trial condition and the unresolved supply terms. Confirm the proposed production code before issuing an order. A quote should not silently permit substitution with a cheaper material carrying the same family name.
Send trial consumption, quantity and destination through the NPAM quotation enquiry. Ask for an order-specific offer rather than treating a published indicative price as a binding supply commitment.
Decision record for the quotation
| Decision | Evidence needed |
|---|---|
| Comparable ton | Same qualified code or explicitly identified alternative, net mass, currency and delivery boundary. |
| Treatment cost | Commercial-product consumption linked to an acceptable separator result, not the largest visible floc. |
| Unpriced exposure | Preparation changes, offloading and excluded charges identified before approval. |
